FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY DOES NOT NEED TO BE SEASONAL

All around the country, and especially in the PNW, family photography sessions slow way down following the holidays. Babies keep being born, couples get engaged, and bellies swell and so family photography doesn’t completely stop in Seattle, but most photos that are not time sensitive are pushed back until summer or fall. I continue my fine art school photography, work on the back end of my business and wait for busy season. But is this truly necessary? I don’t think so. There are a few factors that tend to make family photos so seasonal and I would love to address them!

I have been photographing Becca since I started my company. She was a new mom and a new style blogger. I remember that she brought her husband, Jonathan, along for her session for support and help with the sweetest little red haired baby I had ever seen - Macey. The rest, as they say, was history. I photographed their family many times over the next couple of years. A family session at the site of their wedding, a studio session for photos for her blog, street and Pike Place Market Photos to show off her style. I have watched Macey grow into a hysterical toddler (go to Becca’s Insta Highlights and watch Macey talk about wine). I have watched Becca grow confident and then pregnant. Ha!

In-Home Family Photography Sessions - Real Concerns and Successes from My Seattle Clients

It is no secret that in-home family sessions are my jam. I love window light, I love the comfort it brings to parents and kids alike. I love that the setting is meaningful and that we can always pop outside or go for a walk for even more variety. There is a magic that comes from in-home sessions that I just adore. However, I know that it is not always easy to envision the end product. You see your house in a completely different way than a photographer would, and under so many different circumstances. So, I took to the streets to directly ask my client’s who have had home sessions what their concerns were, what their reality was, and if they would do it again. And by the streets, I mean texting, emailing, and chatting.

Five Reasons to Take Your Family Photos In Your Home

I shoot family sessions in a variety of locations. Although I will always go over what is best for your family once we are in contact, I want to share some information about each type of location in order to help you choose. Today I'll highlight the reasons to pick your own house as the session location. First of all, 99% of my newborn sessions are held at home. When it comes to newborn sessions, it is a pretty easy decision. However, having a newborn is not the only reason to have a family photography session in your home. Here are five more:

Arjun's First Family Photos

Amit and Jinita were some of the proudest parents I have ever seen! They are so smitten with little Arjun. They were affectionate, sweet, and honest about adapting to being new parents! We took their family pictures outside in the Bellevue Botanical Gardens and had so much fun.
