Fine Art School Portraits for Discerning Seattle Parents
Remember that awkward photographer guy who would make you put your knees together and at an angel and then call his assistant over to comb your hair with the comb (ew, why were we all sharing a comb?) and tilt your chin at an angel and squeak a puppet at you while snapping your picture? By the time I got to high school I started figuring out ways to miss picture day. Those awkward encounters plus a stiff photograph in front of a watercolor backdrop that had been in use for 30 years have NEVER been my cup of tea.
That is why last year I started offering my own school photography services in the Seattle area! Yes! As a mom, I have sheepishly skipped ordering Ru’s photos two years in a row. One year there were costumes ( WHY? why was my child dressed up like Oliver begging for more gruel?), the next year he just looks like he would rather be anywhere else. We need better options for school portraits! So, in my humble opinion, I created one.
In the next month I will be providing fine art school portraits in Ravenna, Seattle, Bellevue and Kirkland! I am so excited to be working with these schools. The enrollment at these schools and daycares ranges from 30 to 175, with kids ages 3 months and up! I am so happy that I can serve so many, and be able to offer sibling photos as well!

So, how to get your school into 2020 with modern school portraits? Well, please reach out and I will contact them with you. The best way to change photographers at a school is with the support and requests of parents at the school. I am excited to be photographing two schools in February that I found thanks to mother’s who reached out to me. Not every school is in the right place to make a change, however, so I have a solution!

This past fall I offered “Better Than School Pictures” aka BTSP for all and it was so fun! The idea materialized when I had two different moms who wanted this type of photograph of their child, but whose schools had already committed to a photographer by the time we reached out. While I don’t think it is quite the substitute for family photos, it is such a great (and affordable) addition! It was also super fun to have the parents right next to me making their kids feel at home, which is the major difference between photos at this event and photos taken at a daycare, preschool or school. All of the photos in this post are from the event. Here is what one mom had to say:

The goal is personality -filled portraits of kids. I am just the facilitator for kids to be themselves in front of the camera. Smiling, laughing, glaring, shy- I want to capture them at this age and stage as best I can!
The backdrop will most likely be black, sometimes white/grey, in order to let your child shine and create a photograph that will look beautiful printed in your home.
My pricing for this service, at a school or event, is competitive with the big school photography brands thus making it affordable for all!
