The Advantages and Images of Modern Studio Family Photography
Studio Photography is NOT What You Remember
Gone are the days of matching rodeo outfits in front of a desert backdrop with the littlest child sitting on a saddle propped on a stool- that could not have just been my family, right? The misconceptions of studio work these days deserves to be addressed. Here are the concerns I hear from my clients, family and friends:
Studio sessions are stiff and awkward.
Studio photography is cheesy.
Family photos in a studio will look formal.
Family photos in a studio are inconvenient.
All of these things have been true at one time or another. Some of these things are still true at certain studios. This is NOW how I approach studio work and i really want to tell you why it is my favorite place to take photos next to home sessions.
The Truth About My Family Photography Studio Sessions
Studios are what you make of them. The studios that I like to use provide beautiful reliable light (hello, this is Seattle) and are simple spaces. I utilize the simple white walls, big windows, and my own backdrops. I discuss with the family which option they want. Aka, I do not force flower backdrops on anyone. Haha. I promise.
Studios contain energetic kids. If you compare a studio session with a park or beach session, you can see that your child will be contained. They can’t escape! There are also no people walking by, animals scampering around, golf balls flying at you (this happened to me and a family recently at the arboretum). I am not saying that I don’t love outdoor sessions, but simply highlighting the pros of a studio session.
This is not your grandma’s Glamour Shot: I actually adore the Glamour Shot we have of my grandmother, but she was timeless, effortless, and somehow made it super chic. I give families the same direction and guidance I would at home or outdoors. They are still relaxed, natural, tender and AUTHENTIC.
There is no rescheduling for weather: This is pretty explanatory.
The chance to create just what you were looking for: If you have a gallery wall of photos and want to add a new family photo, we can make the colors and look work with the other things in that room. Wall paint, other photos, frames. If you need something with some yellow to draw your eye, we can do it. So fun!
Ok… that is my spiel about family photo sessions held in studios here in Seattle. Comment or send me an email if you have more questions! I am so happy to answer and work on expanding what studios can mean for family photography.
